The other day, I finished a painting that I started back in January.
It's the first in a series of seven. The idea has been sitting with me for a while now, a sanctuary of wildlife whose adventures mirror what we're all really after underneath everything else. Connection. Love. Belonging.
The title of 'Arrival' came with the idea before I even started sketching it. I've noticed that whatever I make ends up being a symbol for what I desire, need, or am appreciating most in that moment. So I named it 'Arrival', as an experiment. A decision about what it actually means to arrive at your own life.
Here's what I found out: We arrive when we decide we have.
Arrival is a decision, not a destination. The moment you make it, everything opens.
It's not when you finally reach your goal whether that's wealth, health, or relationship. It's not a number in the bank account, a clean bill of health, or a relationship you've always wanted. It's never really about the thing. It's the feeling we assume will show up after we get the thing.
- Arrival is a decision, made before the evidence exists.
- The shortcut is knowing who you are and where you're headed, even without the whole map.
- Believing this isn't instantaneous. It took me three years to actually live inside it and live from that place, and some days I'm still practicing.
This painting might be one of the most peaceful, most alive pieces I've made all year and I wanted to share that feeling with you.
Somewhere above a tropical cloud forest, a flock of flamingos catches the first light of morning as they fly home.
And maybe we're all flying home too. Learning to shed the layers of who we thought we had to be. Returning to our truest selves. Trust the nudge, the intuition, and the guidance that's been leading all along.
You've arrived. You can relax now. Let go, trust and enjoy this life.
Welcome to the sanctuary.
With love,
Katherine
