Art Is the Language We Share When Words Run Out & Labels Fall Away
Have you ever tried to explain a feeling and felt the words didn't capture the feeling itself?
I have, more times than I can count and it's a big part of why I paint.
People often assume or ask me, if being an entrepreneur is lonely.
I understand why. But if I'm honest, the only times this journey has felt lonely have been the times I became disconnected.
When I slipped back into old patterns. Fearing vulnerability, holding back my self-expression, or minimizing my dream because it felt too big to say out loud.
I've been thinking about that a lot since I came home from a women's entrepreneurship retreat in the south of France.
It was a full week of receiving
The whole week was about prioritizing our creative energy, the life force that helps us connect and create because most of us are used to giving more than we receive. So we practiced the opposite. We practised receiving, and the art of allowing and being.
That matters more than it might sound.
Because that energy is where our best work comes from. It's also where our deepest connections come from.
What happens when the labels fall away
Over the past four years, I've spent a lot of time around seven, eight, and even nine figure business owners, and I started to notice something.
When we show up from our own self-expression, from love, and from connection, everything else falls away. The titles, the numbers, and the credentials. What's always left is a kind of connection I think we've are all searching for.
In that moment, Art (creating, expressing, dreaming big) becomes a universal language. It doesn't need explaining. You feel it, and so does the person next to you.
A mentor of mine, Vinh Giang, recently shared a photo of a meal with his family and closest friends. He wrote that connection is "not some soft, fluffy extra part of life. It IS life".
Gathering with people we love, and the moments that look simple from the outside, are what life is actually made of.
Over the last three years of my own adventure and rediscovery of who I am at my core, I began to fully understand that it's never the thing. Not the goal, the achievement, the art exhibition, the painting, or the income.
It's always the feeling underneath. The one we're really after, and the one we sometimes forget when we start believing the material thing will give it to us.
So my latest painting, 'Arrival' is the reminder of this. That we get to arrive at our own life when we decide. Not when things have fallen into place perfectly or when we arrive at the goal, but when we decide to feel whole, at peace, and fully connected with the love that's already around us.
